Hi, my name is Yeti Jason. I’m the founder of Cook Like A Yeti.
I woke up March 2021 in the hospital, the right side of my body paralyzed, and a doctor saying that I took a blot clot to the brain that was caused by a defect in my heart. I laid in that bed for days crying my eyes out, falling into a deep depression, accepting my life as an invalid, and ultimately praying for and seeking death, which never came.
About a week in, something incredible happened. My right toe wiggled, and later my whole foot. For days I worked the nerves in my body, learning to walk again. Those nurses at first got annoyed when I started walking laps around the floor day and night. When I was finally discharged, I had twelve different “lifelong” prescriptions and months of appointments. I committed to myself that that would just not abide.
This online cookbook is a contribution to my health journey. Each recipe is inspired by vintage cookbooks, but updated for today’s palate with healthier ingredients, refined techniques, and presented in a logical, easy-to-follow format for both new and experienced cooks.

My goal is to create a collection of the best go-to recipes on the internet. No newsletters. No miles of clickbait blog articles. No strings. For free, as long as donations let me.
A Little More About Me…
Even though I was born and raised on a bayou in Northwest Florida, my family’s southern roots are buried deep in Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia. I learned how to cook from my paternal grandparents, and it should be no surprise that my dad cooked really well too. While they didn’t teach me specific recipes that I can remember, I do remember all the skills and techniques, that a sharp knife saves fingers, and to make sure the cast iron is oiled before it is put away.
I grew up in a coastal community where fresh seafood and farmer’s markets were the way of life. At an early age, I learned how to catch and clean fish, throw a cast net, drive a boat, and bait a crab trap. By my late teens, I was making off-grid basecamps for bonfire keg parties deep in the woods and inviting everyone to come celebrate the whole weekend. Yes, you read that correctly. Now, those woods of yesteryear are highly developed neighborhoods, commercial strip malls, or nature preserves, but every time I go near nature, it brings me right back and my redneck comes out in full force.
